π Vietnam Food (VNF) is incredibly proud and honored to be featured in the insightful article in Tepbac (one of the leading companies and platforms in information technology solutions in the shrimp industry), shedding light on the often-overlooked by-products of the shrimp industry. π¦
At VNF, we believe that valorizing shrimp by-products achieves far-reaching targets beyond just environmental solutions and promoting the circular economy. π‘ It’s about transforming these by-products into value-added and multifunctional solutions that benefit not only the shrimp industry but also agriculture and beyond. π±πΎ These solutions enhance the entire value chain, from upstream to downstream, spanning across industries. πβ»οΈ
Thank you for recognizing our efforts with the shrimp by-products! π We strongly believe that similar up-cycling stories can happen with every bio by-product!
In Vietnam, there are nearly 1 million tons of shrimp churned out annually, generating around 500 thousand tons of byproducts. Those wastes, if not treated probably, would cause air, water, and soil pollution. Standing out among byproduct processing companies, Vietnam Food (VNF) has collected shells and heads of shrimp from the largest processing plants and produced many value-added products of quality. Especially important is chitosan, a biopolymer with special properties including antibacterial, antioxidant, regenerative/restorative, membrane-forming, lipid coating, adsorption, binding, etc. In recent years, the discovery of the potential to recycle bioplastic from chitosan has garnered significant attention from scientists and consumers alike. The remarkable properties of bioplastic derived from this waste material include antioxidant capabilities, human safety, versatile design options (adjustable thickness and flexibility), and biodegradability. Although manufacturers and researchers continue to grapple with their limitations, the bright prospects of chitosan-based bioplastics underscore their role in enhancing the circular economy. VNF is actively working with many domestic and foreign bioplastic manufacturing companies to develop materials from Chitosan, especially bioplastics. Certainly, VNF and its partners do not stop at bioplastic shopping bags but also construction materials, plastic utensils, cosmetic packaging, masks, and even food wraps.
