THE PROJECT OF UPCYCLING SHRIMP MOLTING SHELLS: ENVIRONMENTAL SOLUTION AND VALUE CREATION FOR FARMERS

🦐 Following the implementation of the shrimp molting shells project, on May 14th, VNF was honored to welcome the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and Dự án Tăng cường năng lực cạnh tranh khu vực tư nhân VN (IPSC) for a field trip at shrimp farms. This field visit highlighted that shrimp molting shells are a significant environmental challenge, as there is currently no optimal solution for handling them, necessitating a more appropriate and effective resolution to this issue.

🏆 The upcycling shrimp molting shell project has been progressing with very encouraging initial results:
1️⃣ Increasing farmers’ awareness of environmental sustainability, resulting in many cooperatives/farms expressing interest in collaborating with VNF (including cooperatives outside the planned pilot area);
2️⃣ Successfully identifying suitable solutions and equipment for siphoning shrimp molting shells;
3️⃣  Successfully extracting bioactive ingredients and developing bio-solutions for agriculture and livestock;
4️⃣ Currently implementing trials of these bio-solutions in fields and farms to complete a true case study on circular economy. Subsequently, VNF will work with experts to assess the greenhouse gas reduction impact of this model.

🤝 Within the framework of this project, VNF is very fortunate and honored to receive attention, support, and guidance from USAID, Ministry of Planning and Investment, Vietnam (MPI), the Agency for Enterprise Development (AED), Dự án Tăng cường năng lực cạnh tranh khu vực tư nhân VN (IPSC), The Sustainable Trade Initiative (IDH), and many partners who have facilitated connections with shrimp farms/cooperatives, invited expert consultants to develop solutions and verify product effectiveness, and helped disseminate such solutions more widely.

🤝 VNF would like to extend our sincere thanks to Ms. Hương (Trinh Huong), Ms. Châu (Chau Nguyen), Ms. Vân, Ms. Mai, Mr. Mark Birnbaum, Mr. Tiến Dũng (Dung N.) for your time in the field visit, together with Mr. Thông (Thong Ba) for your kind support. Thank you all for your enthusiasm in supporting us along the way of this Project implementation 😊

🤝 VNF hopes that in the future, the project can scale up to create an even greater impact, aiming towards a more circular and sustainable shrimp industry. VNF also hopes to continue receiving support and companionship from USAID, IPSC, IDH, and many partners to jointly implement and expand this meaningful project 😊
