POTENTIAL RAW MATERIALS

Shrimp is considered a premium seafood used worldwide because of its delicious taste and high nutritional content. Unknown to many, however, the shrimp’s co-products (shrimp heads and shrimp shells) also contain an abundance of valuable nutrients which can be a potential and highly valuable source of raw materials if properly handled and processed.

SHRIMP CO-PRODUCTS CONTAINS VALUABLE NUTRIENTS WHICH CAN BE USED IN DIVERSE APPLICATIONS

PROTEIN

  • Hight content of more than 17 different types of amino acids
  • Significantly contains 9/9 essential amino acids which the body cannot synthesize within itself (His, Thr, Val, Lys, Iso, Leu, Phe, Met, Try)

MINERAL

  • Many essential minerals (primarily Ca, P, Na, Mg, K)
  • Supports cell function, metabolism, bones and teeth, cardiovascular, nerves,…

LIPID

  • Essential nutrient for the structure & function of body

CHITIN

  • A Biopolymer, primarily as a base to produce Glucosamine and Chitosan.
  • Widespread applications in Agriculture, Industrial, Functional Food, Biomedical, Pharmaceutical, etc.

OTHERS

  • ASTAXANTHIN: King of antioxidant, natural color, functional supplement specializing in supporting the nervous system, cardiovascular function…

SHRIMP INDUSTRY IN VIETNAM

  • Given many favorable factors (suitable natural conditions, long-established farming practices, strong support from the Government, etc.), Vietnam has consistently been among the top 5 global largest shrimp exporting countries.
  • However, the shrimp industry’s growth also dragged along large amount of co-product (~35-45% of the shrimp weight), causing environmental pressure and hindering the sustainable development of the whole value chain.

VNF’s SUPPLY STRATEGY

Recognizing the value of shrimp co-products, VNF entered the industry by first implementing a long-term purchasing strategy and improving collection methods to ensure the consistent, high quality of raw materials

SECURE STABLE INPUT

  • Long-term contracts with leading shrimp processing companies in Viet Nam
  • Continuously optimize raw materials transportation and collection methods at shrimp processors

IMPROVE INPUT QUALITY

  • Invest in cold storage transport systems to guarantee quality upon receiving raw materials
  • Revolutionize how shrimp co-products are treated (as an asset rather than liability)

RESULTS:

Abundant supply.
Quality assurance

Consistent and stable source of raw materials

High-quality of raw materials meets global food production standards
